Polygondwanajams I haven't listened to every song by The Modern Folk, but of the ones I have "Lovely/Deadly" is easily my favorite. This is also my favorite album of the ones I've listened to so far. Favorite track: lovely/deadly.

wc_helmets Folk in the most modern sense of the word, borrowing from the modern world as much as the american primitive movement to really forge his own creative voice. Don't sleep on The Modern Folk.

Roy Peak These songs flow like a jungle river, twisting back on itself, becoming claustrophobic and dark, then opening up into a beautiful field of daylight before it changes again, into something you've never heard before, mysterious, wonderful, honest. Gaze into the waters as you float by, it's all there, looking back at you, and knows you may never be this free again.

John Meaux Remember back in the day when people made and exchanged old school cassette mixtapes, MF666 is what they were shooting for!

Don’t Let My Heart Grow Cold is such a great opener……1000 Acres Improv and Glenwood Park Improv each sound like something straight out of Jim O’Rourke’s - Eureka session.

I’ve only heard, Black Is The Color, performed as a dirge and yet somehow The Modern Folk makes it sound “popish.”

The use of field recordings is masterful. Favorite track: don't let my heart grow cold (ft. GCG).
Allister Thompson

Allister Thompson A fascinating mix of styles, from weird pop to twisted takes on trad music. Tom Waits...Pearls Before Swine...John Fahey...underground hip-hop and...Stockhausen? A really coherent blend of an album by a true original, and a talented one. Favorite track: peggy o.

OH BABE IT AIN'T NO LIE
CAPITALISM IS THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE RELIGION

"MF 666 is a perfect example of what can be achieved when an artist abandons the comforts of copy-cat genre structures... ...through this album, Moss presents an authentic synthesis of his influences, nurturing an eclectic garden that sprouts the colors of John Fahey, Kanye, The Grateful Dead, Alex Chilton, and many more...
...MF666 presents a true slice of modern folk, music made with human hands, blistered, worn, and tired from working the actual soil of their lived-experience to find inspiration, rather than taking the far too common route of packaging and selling other people’s authenticity wrapped in a shiny new label with a clever new band name. This is an album that will delight those who are adventurous enough to seek something that doesn’t sound like anything else on their playlist or record collection but presents an authentic slice of modern American folk music, not the folk of 1945 or 1965, but folk music forged in the fires of the 21st century, where hip-hop, American primitive, psych, and traditional folk are all part of the same sonic-mosaic of modern life"
